Excessive intake of table salt on a daily basis causes severe damage, which may lead to stroke, heart disease, high blood pressure, and kidney disease.

According to what was published by the Russian newspaper “Izvestia”, a team of researchers confirmed that salt – an indispensable seasoning in food – acts as a preservative.

The researchers added that salt contains 60% chloride and 40% sodium, in addition to that it helps to relax the muscles, and also helps to move nerve impulses.

But Dr. Irina Yuzub, a Russian nutritionist, warned of the harms of excessive salt consumption, noting that its excess in the body could lead to kidney disease.

She added that when the consumption of salt increases in the body, the kidneys are forced to work intensively to get rid of it, that is, the burden on the kidneys increases, which can lead to their damage, and if they are not treated, the person will develop chronic kidney disease.

She also pointed out the extent to which an increase in the amount of salt in the body affects the blood vessels and the heart and leads to an increase in the level of blood pressure. However, it is not easy to control the amount of salt because it is found in bread, canned food, sauces and semi-finished foods.

Finally, the nutritionist advised not to completely abandon the consumption of salt, because this threatens the general health of the body, and the occurrence of an imbalance in the functions of blood vessels, the urinary system, and the nervous system.
