Diosdado Cabello mocked on Monday the Venezuelan migrants who cross the Darien jungle daily, between Colombia and Panama.
He believed that there is a campaign against Venezuela on the issue of migration and selva of Darien.
“It’s like this story of migration in the Darien jungle. The Darién has better WiFi than good areas of Venezuela. They broadcast live from anywhere in the Darien. And one says, how is that? Or that man who was crossing the Rio Grande there and a lady from the United States police was waiting for him with open arms because she knew he was Venezuelan, ”said Cabello.
Venezuelans cross the Darien jungle
In August alone, nearly 23,000 Venezuelan migrants crossed the Plug from Darien trying to reach the United States in search of a better future due to the economic, political and social crisis in their country. So far this year there are already 68,000. The crossing exposes them to serious abuse by irregulars, who not only collect vaccines but also rob and sexually abuse travelers.
Carlos Rodríguez, a lawyer from the UCAB Human Rights Center, explained that the reasons for the increase in the number of migrants crossing the Darién are associated with the requirement of visas in Central American countries. He indicated that the global economic crisis is added to the complex humanitarian emergency. He said that this negatively influenced Venezuelans in countries like Peru, Ecuador and Chile.
Other data shows that 1,001 migrants entered Panama daily through the Darién during August 2022 and 14% of them are minors. Of that number, 762 are Venezuelans.
