The death of the Syrian Maestro Hossam El Din Primo

The Syrian Artists Syndicate mourned the maestro and musician Hossam El Din Primo, who passed away at the age of 60, after a struggle with illness.

Hossam El Din Primo was born in Damascus on May 18, 1962, and although he did not study acting, he worked for 6 years (1984-1990) as a theater actor in many theater groups, especially the university theater group at Damascus University. After that, he studied music at the Higher Institute of Music in the Syrian capital, between 1991 and 1997. He also learned and perfected classical singing at the hands of the Russian professor, Galina Khaldieva.

Primo held many positions in the artistic community in Syria, as he worked as an agent for the Higher Institute of Music, a teacher at the same institute, a coach and choir leader in the choir of St. Ephrem the Syriac College. He also founded and led the “Luna”, “Alwan” and “Ward” choirs. Primo participated in singing with the choir of the Higher Institute of Music, under the supervision of Professor Victor Babenko, and sang with the Arab Music Ensemble of the Higher Institute of Music, under the supervision of Professor Hamid Al-Basri, and participated with it in the Arab Music Festival in Cairo in 1994.

In addition to singing, Hossam El Din Primo became famous as a composer and pianist, inside Syria and in many Arab artistic circles.
