The death toll from floods in China has risen to 17

The death toll from flash floods in northwest China has risen to 17, and 17 others are still missing, state television reported Friday.
Heavy rains caused flash floods on Wednesday evening in the mountains of Datong County, near Xining City, Qinghai Province. More than 6,000 people were affected.
The downpour triggered landslides that blocked and diverted rivers. Two buildings were swept away and 14 others were severely damaged.
And 20 people were missing. About 2,000 people participated in the rescue effort.
