The Foreign Office has said that the decision to expel illegal foreigners residing in Pakistan is in accordance with the sovereign country’s laws and international norms, all foreign nationals legally residing or registered in Pakistan are outside the scope of this plan.

Spokesperson Mumtaz Zahra Baloch said in response to a statement by the United Nations High Commissioner (UNHCR) that the decision is in accordance with Pakistan’s sovereign domestic laws and applicable international values ​​and norms.

UNHCR had appealed to the Pakistani authorities to suspend the deportation decision after the November 1 deadline. The spokesperson said that we have seen the press statement of the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights. The Illegal Alien Repatriation Program (IFRP) applies to all aliens residing illegally in Pakistan, irrespective of their nationality and country of origin.

The spokesman said that all foreign nationals legally residing or registered in Pakistan are outside the scope of this plan. The Government of Pakistan takes its commitments to the safety and security needs of these people very seriously. He mentioned that the country’s record of hosting millions of Afghan brothers and sisters in the last 40 years is proof of this.

The spokesperson urged the international community to intensify collective efforts to address the refugee problem in terms of durable solutions as a matter of priority. He said that Pakistan will continue to work with its international partners for this purpose.
