The dirham appreciates 0.14% against the dollar from December 30 to January 5 (BAM)

Rabat – The dirham appreciated 0.14% against the US dollar and depreciated 0.12% against the euro between December 30, 2021 and January 5, 2022, according to Bank Al -Maghrib (BAM).

During this period, no offer was recorded in the framework of the currency auctions organized by BAM, the Central Bank indicates in its recent weekly bulletin.

As of December 31, 2021, official reserve assets stood at 331.2 billion dirhams (billion dirhams), up 0.3% week-on-week and 3.3% year-on-year.

During the same period, BAM injected an amount of MAD 47.3 billion in the form of 7-day advances following a call for tenders. Taking into account the injections of 22.8 billion dirhams in the form of repo operations delivered and 21.2 billion dirhams within the framework of the support programs for the financing of the TPME, the overall outstanding amount of BAM interventions comes out to 91.2 billion dirhams. .

On the interbank market, the average daily volume of trade stood at 3.9 billion dirhams and the interbank rate during this period was 1.50% on average.

During the call for tenders on January 5 (value date January 6), the Central Bank injected an amount of MAD 28.8 billion in the form of 7-day advances.

On the stock market, over the same period, the Masi depreciated 0.7%. This development reflects the drops in the indices of the “oil and gas” sectors by 4.6%, “buildings and construction materials” by 1.2% and “banks” by 0.6%. Conversely, those of “distributors” and “transport companies” increased by 1.3% and 0.7% respectively.

Regarding the overall volume of trade, it amounted to 1.6 billion dirhams against 10.3 billion dirhams a week earlier. On the central equity market, the average daily volume stood at MAD 173.3 million (MDH) after MAD 901.1 million.
