The “district of the future” north of La Défense will settle in Grammont

According to, if all goes according to plan, the barracks will open its doors within four to five years.

The two neighborhoods of the future, says “nord” et “sud“, aim to provide a response to the problems of personnel and infrastructure in Defense by building them in regions where there are few military installations, in order to offer greater geographical stability to the personnel of these regions.

They will offer a greater number of different types of jobs to promote the recruitment of young and specialized profiles, without having a dedicated training ground, according to the ministry. They thus aim to develop maximum synergies between the civilian and military worlds in terms of pooling infrastructure, training programs, research programs and career paths.

The future district of Grammont will be located not far from the linguistic border and in particular from the town of Lessines (Hainaut).

The choice of Charleroi to host the southern district, to be built by 2026 on the Porte Ouest site formerly used by the steel company Duferco-Carsid, dates back to September 2021.
