The man who ran over and killed a 5-year-old girl on Saturday in the Santa Rita neighborhood of Mar del Plata turned himself in to the Police, sources from that force reported.
Julio Sosa, 38, aboard a dark gray five-door rural comfort Renault Megane, ran over a 5-year-old girl from the Zíngara community at noon on Saturday, who died while being carried in an ambulance from Same to the Hospital Interzonal General de Agudos (HIGA).
The event occurred around 12:50 at the intersection of Vértiz and Polonia when the girl was crossing the street and was hit by Sosa who fled after the impact.
Late in the afternoon of the same Saturday, the driver turned himself in at the Second Police Station together with a lawyer. The car was hijacked and will be appraised by Scientific Police personnel.
In addition, by order of the Culpable Crimes Prosecutor in charge of Pablo Cistoldi, the driver underwent a breathalyzer test and a medical examination.
According to witnesses, the girl belonging to the gypsy community rushed across the street suddenly when she saw her mother on the other side.
The speed at which the car was traveling will be determined by the experts and the municipal cameras of the Monitoring Center (COM).
