It was supposed to be the duel between the two top running backs, but not only Derrick Henry was injured.

The New Orleans Saints have ruled out running back Alvin Kamara for Sunday’s game against the Tennessee Titans due to a knee injury.

The four-time Pro Bowler hasn’t trained all week.

Head coach Sean Payton described Kamara’s condition as “a knee injury that he’s recovering from as soon as possible”.

Payton noted that the star rusher struggled with pain towards the end of last week’s game against the Atlanta Falcons.

Kamara leads the team with 530 rushing yards, seven touchdowns and 32 receptions.

It is believed that Mark Ingram will get the majority of the carries in Kamara’s absence. The three-time Pro Bowler has rushed for 70 yards on 15 attempts since joining the Saints from the Houston Texans.

Ty Montgomery and Dwayne Washington are also expected to spend some time in the backfield.

Ingram needs just 22 rushing yards on Sunday to replace Saints legend Deuce McAllister as the franchise’s record holder.

The Saints are also without left tackle Terron Armstead and defensive back CJ Gardner-Johnson. Armstead previously missed two games with an elbow problem, while Gardner-Johnson has a right foot injury.

The Saints will look to end the Titans’ five-game winning streak.
