The Duskbloods Network Test Outperformed Elden Ring: Nightreign Signups

The Duskbloods, FromSoftware’s upcoming PvPvE game directed by Hidetaka Miyazaki and exclusive to the Nintendo Switch 2, has surpassed the network test registration numbers of Elden Ring: Nightreign, according to statements made by producer Yasuhiro Kitao during a Famitsu broadcast. Despite the Nintendo Switch 2 having a smaller installed hardware base than the multi-platform footprint of Elden Ring: Nightreign, the new title drew higher sign-up metrics.

Network Test Metrics Defy Hardware Installed Base Realities

When FromSoftware wrapped up the network test phase for The Duskbloods, the developer hit an unexpected milestone. Yasuhiro Kitao revealed during the Famitsu broadcast that user sign-ups for the new PvPvE title eclipsed those recorded for the Elden Ring: Nightreign network test.

This data point counters standard hardware adoption metrics. Elden Ring: Nightreign rolled out its network testing across a multi-platform ecosystem including PC, PS4, PS5, XBOX One, and XBOX Series. By contrast, The Duskbloods is confined strictly to the Nintendo Switch 2. Kitao acknowledged this disparity directly, noting that the installed user base of Nintendo’s newer hybrid hardware does not approach the numbers of the PC, PlayStation and XBOX systems.

According to Kitao, part of the discrepancy stems from how players approach multiplayer tests on mature hardware versus new platforms. For the Elden Ring: Nightreign trials, many users initially overlooked the multiplayer focus, only playing after the launch. With The Duskbloods, the novelty of the Nintendo Switch 2 hardware created a curiosity spike, driving higher registration numbers as players sought to participate in the network test.

FromSoftware Maintains Commitment to Single-Player Architecture

While the studio’s two latest projects are multiplayer-focused—exemplified by both Elden Ring: Nightreign and The Duskbloods—FromSoftware leadership has clarified that the shift does not signal a transition to being a developer focused solely on these experiences. Hidetaka Miyazaki noted that the more he works on a title centered on offering a multiplayer proposal, the more he wants to return to the design of adventures for a single player.

Miyazaki’s statements indicate that the company will continue contributing to the industry with single-player entries, ensuring the developer maintains its roots even as it tests new hardware platforms like the Nintendo Switch 2.

Platform Dynamics and the Road to Launch

With the network test concluded and registration records broken, The Duskbloods has successfully cleared one of its most relevant production hurdles.
