The hottest time of the year in the northern hemisphere is over. In view of the many records of the past few months, this year will most likely end up at the top of the hottest year parade after the final balance sheet. The development leaves no room for doubt: we live on a planet that is warming rapidly. Average temperatures such as those we can expect in the coming decades have of course occurred more frequently in the history of the earth – but the developments were not nearly as rapid back then as they are today.
