Widzew Łódź is currently on a streak of three matches without defeat in the Ekstraklasa. It all started on March 10 this year, when Widzew defeated Legia Warszawa 1-0 after a goal by Fran Alvarez in the 93rd minute. Widzew won against Legia for the first time in 24 years. Then the team led by Daniel Myśliwiec drew 2-2 with Cracovia and defeated Korona Kielce 3-1. Thanks to this, Widzew is nine points ahead of the relegation zone.
Alvarez is one of Widzew’s most important figures this season. The Spaniard scored five goals and provided three assists in 24 matches. Only Jordi Sanchez (8), Bartłomiej Pawłowski (7) and Imad Rondić (6) are more effective than Alvarez. Will Alvarez be a Widzew player also next season?

In the heart of Łódź, he was welcomed with the number 10 and the status of a star. He is a small player, which is also visible in his agility, movement and thinking,” writes “Mundo Deportivo”. Alvarez’s contract with Widzew expires in June next year, but there is an option to extend it for an additional season.
However, this does not mean that Alvarez will not change the club. The mentioned daily reports that the Spaniard is being watched by the best clubs in the Ekstraklasa at the moment, i.e. Legia Warszawa, Śląsk Wrocław, Jagiellonia Białystok, Lech Poznań and Raków Częstochowa. However, there is a chance that Alvarez will return to Spain, because RCD Espanyol Barcelona is interested in him there.
Apart from Widzew, Alvarez only played for clubs in his homeland. Until 2020, he was a player of Villarreal, where he played in the youth teams and in the reserves. In the 20/21 season he played in the second team of Real Valladolid. Then he went to second-division Albacete, from where he left without a transfer fee to Widzew. Apart from the goal against Legia, Alvarez also scored in games against Puszcza Niepołomice (3:2), Lech Poznań (3:1), Pogoń Szczecin (1:2) and Korona Kielce (3:1).
Espanyol is currently in fourth place in the Primera Division with 54 points, six behind leader Leganes. However, Espanyol’s loss to second-placed Eibar is only one point, so Espanyol has a chance to gain direct promotion to the Spanish elite. Espanyol won four Spanish Cups, six Catalan Cups and an Intertoto Cup in the 68/69 season.
