The elderly and fast food.. A study reveals an unexpected surprise

When people talk about fast food, they believe that those concerned are the young people who are addicted to eating foods such as burgers, pizza and soft drinks, but a recent American study revealed that the elderly are not immune from danger.

According to a study conducted by the American University of Michigan, 13 percent of people between the ages of 50 and 80 showed signs of addiction to unhealthy foods and drinks.

And the transfer of the “diabetesselfmanagement” website, the study showed a high demand for fast food for the elderly, despite the health disorders it causes, such as diabetes, high blood pressure, cholesterol, kidneys, and premature death.

The damage of fast food does not stop at the organic side, but rather leads to an increase in feelings of depression and anxiety, especially among the elderly who are most vulnerable.

The survey was conducted in July 2022, so the elderly were asked about the foods they eat, and whether they, in turn, accept fast food, which has become a cause of great concern in the world.

The results showed that 44 percent of the respondents had at least one symptom of fast food addiction.

Among the most prominent symptoms of fast food addiction; Feeling a very strong desire to eat a certain food, so eat it at least once a week.

Symptoms include the inability to quit eating certain meals despite trying constantly, as well as feeling distressed when you stop eating them for a period in a symptom called “withdrawal”.

The researchers explained that highly processed foods, such as cured meats, are more likely to become addictive because they stimulate the dopamine hormone in the brain.

Perhaps this explains the tendency of some people to eat fast and highly processed meals when disturbed by something in their lives.
