In the FOB sector of the international air terminal, where private flights usually arrive, dozens of relatives awaited the reunion with the more than 240 Argentines evacuated following the attack by the Palestinian Islamist group Hamas.

Aerolíneas Argentinas flight AR1091, which arrived at 7:49 a.m., had taken off at 11:15 p.m. from Rome (6:15 p.m. Argentine time) with tourists, students and Argentine residents in Israel as part of the “Safe Return” operation organized by the Government.

While waiting, Claudio Peña, from Córdoba, told Télam: “We have two boys in Israel, one 16 years old and the other 14. The 16-year-old had already been there last year, already doing his fourth year there. He is now doing fifth year. And the other one was in third year.”

The attack by the Hamas group found them in an aunt’s house.

“They were fine, they were safe, they were calm. Seeing and hearing what was happening nearby. But day by day a whole uncertainty began to be generated that made us make the decision to want to bring them,” said Peña, who was “very grateful to the Embassy, ​​to the government of Argentina, for all the movement, all the transfer, permanent communication”.

Marina Ovie, meanwhile, indicated that she was expecting her third-year son from the Ort Rosario school. “We are extremely happy, just to make me happy on Mother’s Day,” said Ovie.

Gabriel Chapunov, father of Joaquín (18), was also waiting to meet his son. “He traveled two or so years ago because he won a scholarship to finish high school there, as part of a program. Imagine that today is Mother’s Day, so that’s the expectation. To meet once more just for a day like today,” he said.
