Galloping inflation is hurting the wallets of the French. They try by all means to save money, but it is more and more difficult. Between the price of races, fuels and energies, it is difficult to put aside. This is all the more alarming as the TRG is coming to an end soon. It is therefore the end of the regulated gas tariff. Gas: the end of TRV
Until now, many individuals have benefited from regulated gas sales tariffs (TRV). But this expenditure assistance mechanism is about to end. It has been around since World War II. Its goal ? Protect consumers from energy price fluctuations.
It was a mechanism all the more interesting that the price of gas does not stop increasing these last years. We are talking about an increase, over one year (between January 2022 and January 2023) of 18%.
Unfortunately, this state aid ends on June 30, 2023. Its abolition is not a surprise. It has been planned since 2017 by the Council of State. The goal ? Align with European competition law. But what to do to avoid seeing your gas bill go up.

Who are the French concerned by the end of the TRV for gas?
This article concerns in particular customers who obtain gas from Engie. But not only. There are also customers of local distribution companies (ELD). And also the customers of other suppliers such as EDF, Total and Eni.
If you are a customer of Engie, we advise you to look at your last gas bill. If you see the Gas Regulated Tariff header (or package logo), then you need to make new arrangements.
Finally, if you buy gas from other suppliers, check your mailbox. You have logically received official letters which clarify the situation. Logically, the last letter dates from March 2023.
Don’t panic if this is the case. You will not suffer from gas cut. You simply have to change the contract by switching to another market offer. Luckily, you don’t have to do anything. This is done automatically.
Know the alternatives
Note that it is possible for customers to find fixed prices or indexed prices. It already exists on the market. The choice of your gas supplier is up to you. If you opt for a variable contract, then from one month to another, your gas bills will not be the same.
