The endocrinologist told how to overcome the spring deficiency of vitamin D

Vitamin D must be taken every day. If this is not done, then its deficiency will occur in the body. About this on Wednesday, March 23, in an interview with the radio Sputnik said endocrinologist Viktor Zhilyaev.

Despite the increased number of sunny days, many Russians are still deficient in vitamin D. Its reserves in the body after winter may remain minimal. This can be hazardous to health, as vitamin D performs a huge number of functions. For example, it promotes the release of calcium from food. If the level of the vitamin is reduced, then the body begins to take calcium not from food, but from the bones. It is dangerous for men over 60 and for women after menopause.

In addition, vitamin D has a positive effect on the cardiovascular system and muscle tone. It is also involved in the regulation of blood pressure.

“I recommend taking vitamin D all year round. If you stop drinking it every day, especially for those who live in Moscow, the level (of vitamin D – ed.) will decrease and deficiency will occur again. For official vitamin D formulations, studies have been conducted and it is precisely verified what dose is safe for an adult. The only thing is when a person goes to the sea, after that you can take a break in taking vitamin D for one or two months, ”the endocrinologist noted.

The specialist added that vitamin D can be produced in the skin when tanning in a solarium. Zhilyaev stressed that for each person, depending on the type of skin, it is necessary to draw up an individual program.

“Plus, it is important to remember that with regular visits to the solarium, the risk of developing skin cancer, melanoma, increases by 75 percent. You need to be careful with the solarium, ”the doctor concluded.
