The escape of Salafist prisoners: Caution, caution… in the media’s handling of the event

Whatever the truth of what is being circulated now about “Salafists” escaping from prison and killing soldiers who were guarding them, the matter confirms what we have been, are and will always repeat: Security is a project that is never complete and in constant need of continuous revitalization in all its details, whether in its tangible aspect or in its aspect. the perceived.

My experience in the military and security media makes me expect a statement from the qualified official authorities to be issued at a later time regarding the aforementioned events. I hope that this will happen as soon as possible, so that the media arena will not be emptied of reliable news for a long time. Note that the completely sudden and violent nature of the events and the severe shock that this causes constitutes a strong stumbling block to the media’s handling of the issue, especially in the absence of plans in the field of crisis communication (communication de crises) from this type.

In these circumstances, we must, in the media and through social networks, as citizens who are jealous of their country, wait before broadcasting confusing information. Because the perceived side of security is no less dangerous than its tangible side. Both are positively or negatively affected by what we publish on the subject.

False or inaccurate information often causes the recipient to experience extreme anxiety and a sense of fear and distrust. Likewise, the publication of confirmed information, the transmission of which is not authorized by the competent authorities, is also not without risks. The least of them: placing obstacles in the face of the security operations and measures taken to remedy the situation; Which exposes it to significant difficulties and perhaps to failure.

We should not succumb to “thriller-seeking” impulses and the race for information, regardless of the consequences of our actions. Rather, we must think and ponder before rushing, in order for us to achieve what we hope for with God Almighty:

“(…) My Lord, make this a safe country and provide its people with fruits (…)”
