The escaped bonobo has returned safely to its enclosure at Planckendael Zoo

“All visitors have been placed in safety outside the park or in the park buildings,” assured the zoo.

“In order to be able to catch the animal safely, he was given a banana containing an anesthetic,” spokeswoman Amanda Wielemans told HLN.

“We are relieved and happy to be able to confirm that our bonobo is once once more safe in its enclosure,” the park wrote on Facebook. “We now let him rest well with his family and recover from his adventure. The park will reopen at 2 p.m..”

The bonobo therefore returned safe and sound, no other person was injured.
