The EU Commission sends the government a “final warning”.

Vienna (OTS) –

The EU Commission announced today, Tuesday, that it is considering opening excessive deficit proceedings against Austria because, under a “no policy change” assumption, it assumes that the deficit will not only be in the current year, but also will be above the reference value of 3 percent in 2025 and 2026. SPÖ budget spokesman Kai Jan Krainer sees this as “a final warning” from the commission that the black-green government will pass on to the next government. “It is high time for everyone to finally see how dramatic the budget situation is,” says Krainer, and he emphasizes: “A fair and clever economic and budget policy is therefore now needed. A mix of income and expenditure measures is needed. Stronger shoulders will have to carry more.” **** (End) wf/lp
