L’announcement had the effect of a hammer blow. France’s public deficit in 2023 amounts to 5.5% of GDP, INSEE revealed on Tuesday. A bitter failure for the executive, which had estimated it at 4.9% of GDP.

Despite this new economic configuration, “we maintain the objective of returning below 3% in 2027”, reaffirmed Bruno Le Maire this Tuesday morning on RTL. “It will require additional efforts because it is the same objective as before, but with a more degraded situation,” however admitted the Minister of the Economy.
