Ankara has announced the imposition of an export embargo against Israel in 54 categories of products, as a reaction to the operations of the Israeli army in the Gaza war. Tel Aviv responds that it will prepare its own trade restrictions on products to Turkey. In the meantime, Netanyahu said that the date of the attack on Rafa has been determined.
Escalating the tension, Ankara finally announces an embargo on exports to Israel.
“We have decided to take a series of new measures against Israel. […] They will be announced by the relevant authorities and will continue until Israel declares a cease-fire and allows the unhindered delivery of humanitarian aid to Gaza,” Hakan Fidan said.
The decision comes after a disappointing municipal election result for Tayyip Erdogan and amid strong criticism inside Turkey of trade with Israel.
“As Turkey, we have shown that we stand by the Palestinian people in these difficult times with the total amount of aid we have sent to the region to date exceeding 45 thousand tons,” the Turkish president emphasized.
Tel Aviv accuses Erdogan of sacrificing the economic interests of his people for the sake of Hamas and threatens retaliation.
Israel’s foreign minister said: “I ordered another list of products that Israel will prevent Turkey from exporting to be prepared, and in addition, I ordered to contact countries and organizations in the US, and ask them to stop investing in Turkey and prevent the import of products from Turkey.
But while the drama of the residents in Gaza has no end, and with the aid flowing with obstacles, France also does not rule out imposing sanctions on Israel.
“We will continue the sanctions if necessary to allow humanitarian aid to pass through the checkpoints,” French Foreign Minister Stephane Cezournet said.
And while Nicaragua is referring Germany to the International Court of Justice in The Hague on charges that it facilitates Israel to commit genocide by providing it with weapons and financial aid, German officials make it clear that under no circumstances are they turning their backs on Gaza, but they cannot help but support the Israel.
The Israeli Prime Minister clarifies that the operation in Rafah will take place and a date has been set. “We will complete the elimination of the Hamas battalions, and in Rafah. There is no power in the world that will stop us,” said Benjamin Netanyahu.
In Khan Yunis, the residents’ initial relief at the withdrawal of the Israeli army has turned to despair. Destruction everywhere. The situation is similar at Al Shifa Hospital.
A team from the World Health Organization went to the hospital, while dozens of bodies remain in the wreckage.
