the fifteen-minute waiting period after the reminder is no longer systematic

This is a measure intended to streamline the organization of vaccination centers as part of the recall campaign. People who take their booster dose of the Covid-19 vaccine are no longer obliged to wait on site a quarter of an hour after their injection if the previous ones went without problem, announced the general directorate of health. (DGS), which depends on the Ministry of Health, in a note sent to professionals, Thursday January 6.

“In its opinion of December 24, 2021, the Vaccine Strategy Orientation Council positioned itself for the elimination of the fifteen-minute monitoring period for certain groups having just received a booster dose”, writes the DGS. For security reasons, this monitoring period is maintained in certain cases.

Time for the first two doses and some people

This safety period is applied and maintained for the first doses: the person must remain on site for fifteen minutes, to be able to receive medical assistance in the event that a problem arises (of the allergic type, for example). Corn “If it went well” during the first injections, “There is no reason to maintain” this delay during the recall, we commented to the ministry.

“The risk that people who did not have an allergic reaction during their primary vaccination do during their booster dose is extremely low”, argues the DGS.

When calling back, this period is maintained for some people. Among them, those who had first been vaccinated with a vaccine other than those of Pfizer or Moderna, those who have “A known allergic ground” Where “Increased risk of anaphylactic shock”, pregnant women, “People weakened by chronic diseases with possible mobility difficulties” or those who present “Vaccination anxiety”.

So far no “Cases concerning serious undesirable effects” has never been reported to health authorities “Within the fifteen minute post-vaccination surveillance period”, according to the note from the DGS.

In addition, the ministry changed the time between the first two injections of the vaccine for children. If the twenty-one day interval remains « optimal », it is now possible to make an appointment “From eighteen to twenty-four days between the first and the second dose”. This is about “Facilitate the practical organization of pediatric vaccination and in particular making appointments”, according to the note from the DGS.
