The final statement of the foreign ministers of Islamic cooperation confirms the centrality of the Palestinian cause

The Organization of Islamic Cooperation affirmed today, Friday, its commitment to the Palestinian cause on the grounds that it is the central cause of the Islamic nation.

This came in the final statement of the 49th session of the OIC’s foreign ministers, which convened in the Mauritanian capital, Nouakchott, over two days.

The statement called on the international community to “assume its responsibilities in accordance with international law and take the necessary measures to compel the occupation to refrain from all illegal measures and practices and to abide by all international resolutions in the Holy City of Jerusalem.”

He stressed that “Al-Quds Al-Sharif represents an integral part of the land of the State of Palestine and the exclusive sovereignty of the Palestinian people over it,” calling on the OIC member states to press for Palestine’s admission to the United Nations.

On the other hand, the statement renewed the commitment of the member states to “preserving the sovereignty of Yemen, Syria and Libya,” expressing “the solidarity of the member states with Azerbaijan, Somalia, Sudan, Djibouti, Comoros, Bosnia and Herzegovina, the people of Jammu and Kashmir, the Turkish Cypriots and the Turkish Muslim minority in Western Thrace.”

He affirmed the organization’s “principled position on resolving the Jammu and Kashmir dispute by peaceful means in accordance with the relevant UN Security Council resolutions.” He also expressed the rejection of “terrorism in all its forms and forms, and the condemnation of all attempts aimed at linking it to a specific country, religion, race, race or civilization.”

The statement called for “activating mechanisms of solidarity and complementarity to prevent terrorist acts in accordance with the principles of international law and the charters of the United Nations and the Cooperation Organization.” It also expressed concern about the growing phenomenon of refugee and humanitarian displacement in various parts of the world.

He welcomed “the end of the armed conflict between Azerbaijan and Armenia,” stressing “solidarity with Azerbaijan in the efforts to rehabilitate and rebuild the liberated lands that were greatly damaged by the Armenian aggression, and to enable the displaced to return to their homes.”

The statement also praised “the agreement between Saudi Arabia and Iran under Chinese auspices, according to which the two countries decided to reopen their embassies.”

Over two days, the session discussed a number of issues, foremost among them the Palestinian cause and developments in Al-Quds Al-Sharif. It also discussed developments in the Afghan issue, the situation in Jammu and Kashmir and the Sahel region, and the situation of Muslim minorities and communities in non-member countries. It also discussed the phenomenon of “Islamophobia.”

The session witnessed the holding of meetings of the contact groups for Palestine and Jammu and Kashmir, in addition to an open-ended meeting of the Ad Hoc Ministerial Committee on Accountability for Human Rights Violations against the “Rohingya” minority.
