Regarding the successful test flight of the KF-21 Boramae, a domestic supersonic fighter jet, on the 19th, President Yoon Seok-yeol said, “It is a splendid feat to go for an independent national defense.”
According to the presidential office, President Yoon said on the same day that “the turning point has been prepared for the expansion of our defense industry exports.”
President Yoon added, “I would like to congratulate all those who have participated in the development so far.”
The Defense Acquisition Program Administration announced on the afternoon that the KF-21 prototype took off from the runway of the 3rd Training Wing of the Sacheon Air Force in Gyeongnam near the headquarters of the developer of Korea Aerospace Industries (KAI), completed a test flight and landed normally.
The first flight of the KF-21 took place approximately 22 years after the late former President Kim Dae-jung announced that it would develop its own ‘high-tech fighter’ in November 2000.
