Mr Audenaert is suspected of having been paid to use his influence in the move in 2011 of the federal police to the former Administrative City of the State in Brussels, which was in the bosom of the Dutch property magnate Frank Zweegers, despite cheaper alternatives. Mr. Audenaert would thus have received 100,000 euros.
Glenn Audenaert has always denied the facts to this day. After many months of delays and procedural problems, the case came before the council chambers in 2021, but had been postponed again.
Last December, the council chamber finally decided that the former police director would be sent back to the Dendermonde criminal court. The case will be heard on March 14.
