Samsung is making a comeback on the laptop market in Europe. Here are the first two flagships of the giant that will land in France, the Samsung Galaxy Book 2 Pro and 2 Pro 360.

For several years, we could be frustrated in Europe and more precisely in France not to see the arrival of Samsung laptops. The firm has pretty good press across the Atlantic, but decided to withdraw from the European market several years ago. At MWC 2022, Samsug marks its return to Europe with two new references. Meet the Galaxy Book 2 Pro and Galaxy Book 2 Pro 360.

Samsung Galaxy Book 2 Pro: performance in a featherweight

The first of the two devices is intended to be excellence in a portable PC by Samsung. Here, no gimmick to transform the machine, but a “classic” laptop PC. This does not prevent Samsung from having worked on its design to make it a featherweight: 870 g for the 13-inch version and 1.17 kg for the best-endowed 15.6-inch version, only. Such a format under the 1 kg bar must seem particularly light in hand.

And yet, the machine is far from empty. Samsung indeed integrates just unveiled 12th generation Intel Core processors supported by 8 to 32 GB of LPDDR5 RAM and up to 1 TB of NVMe storage. The graphics part will be provided by the integrated Intel Iris Xe component, or a Graphic card Dedicated Intel Arc in the case of the 15.6-inch version.

The screen let’s talk about it, in both we are entitled to an AMOLED panel, Samsung obliges, with a rather economical definition of 1920 x 1080 pixels. Samsung did not fall into the trap of the very high definition screen which could have caused the battery to melt from 63 to 68 Wh depending on the diagonal of the screen. That’s not all, we must also mention the presence of a Full HD camera which should make it possible to carry out beautiful video meetings. The PC will come with a 65W USB-C charger.

On the software side, the machine runs under Windows 11 with special attention to securing the device according to Samsung. The firm promises to follow Microsoft’s recommendations for the security of hardware, firmware and identity. For the latter, this is done by the Windows Hello compatible fingerprint reader present on the PC. The Galaxy Book 2 Pro also follows the recommendations of the Intel Evo platform.

Regarding connectivity, the 13.3 inch version is a little less generous than the 15.6 inch variant. For the first, there is a Thunderbolt 4 port, a USB-C port, a USB-A 3.2 port, a microSD reader and a 3.5 mm jack port. The 15.6-inch model takes up this connection and adds an HDMI port and an optional nanoSIM reader. Because yes, the Galaxy Book 2 Pro can be offered with a 5G connection, in addition to Wi-Fi 6E and Bluetooth 5.1.

If you have a penchant for transformable devices, this is the 360 version for you. As its name suggests, this reference allows you to rotate the screen behind the keyboard to offer all the comfort of a large tablet. An S Pen stylus comes with the PC for taking notes.

Once again, Samsung offers this machine in 13.3 inches or 15.6 inches. The configuration broadly follows what the classic Galaxy Book 2 Pro offers. So we have a 12th generation Intel Core processor with 8 to 32 GB of RAM and 256 to 1 TB of SSD storage, a Super Amoled Full HD screen, a 1080p webcam, a 63 to 68 Wh battery, a 65 W, Windows 11 and Windows Hello compatible fingerprint reader.

The connection is still a little less generous, however, with only a Thunderbolt 4 port, a USB-C port, a jack and a microSD reader. And it’s not the thinness that explains this since the Galaxy Book 2 Pro 360 is slightly larger than its cousin (probably to integrate the hinge system and the touch screen). The 13.3 inch version thus occupies 302.5 x 202 x 11.5 mm for 1.04 kg while the 15.6 inch version is 354.85 x 227.97 x 11.9 mm for 1.41 kg .

Launch in France

Samsung France was able to confirm to us that the two PCs will be launched on our territory. Pre-orders will open from March 18 until March 31, and Samsung says a 27-inch Full HD LCD external display (Samsung LC27F396FHRXEN) will be offered with orders during this time. The commercial launch is scheduled for April 1, 2022. From this date, and until May 15, 2022, Samsung is planning an introductory offer where customers will receive a pair of Samsung Galaxy Buds Pro.
