When the Les Paul Supreme reappeared in the Gibson catalog a few months ago, the question arose: what about the matching SG model? We now have our answer, here it is again!
The principle of the Supreme models in the Gibson range is very simple: they are models with a level of decoration pushed to the maximum. The height of refinement or kitsch, depending on your aesthetic taste. And the new version of the SG Supreme is no exception with a look that undoubtedly makes it the most decorated model in the entire SG range. We find the flamed maple top over the mahogany body, the “Chandelier” headstock inlay which was launched on the new Les Paul Supreme, the striped block fingerboard markers, the fingerboard and headstock binding and the golden hardware. The top is well highlighted both by the absence of a pickguard and by the three transparent finishes available, Fireburst, Wine Red and Translucent Ebony Burst. There is also a fourth model in opaque black which receives a third humbucker, a Black Beauty from the late 50s SG version in a way.
The neck has a thin Slim Taper profile, and it receives an ebony fingerboard with a 24 fret composite radius, which is very rare for Gibson. The two-pickup SG Supremes have a Burstbucker Lead Pro+ in the bridge position and a Burstbucker Pro at the neck (with two splits on their respective volumes), and the three-pickup model has an additional Burstbucker Pro in the middle which has its own volume setting. volume with split, which therefore gives a general tone in the fourth button.
Finally, as if the Gibson SG Supreme wasn’t already unusual enough, its strap attachment is located at the end of the upper horn rather than at the back of the neck heel. If you’re looking for the ultimate SG, look no further: the Supreme is back.
