The negotiations for the “Omnibus Law” in the Chamber of Deputies reached the economic chapter this Tuesday, one of the fastest of the project. The “collaborative” opposition conveyed its rejection to the suspension of retirement mobility and withholdings from regional economiesand officials from the Ministry of Economy promised to provide answers between Wednesday and Thursday.

While a new plenary session of the General Legislation, Constitutional Affairs and Budget commissions was held with guests from civil society, the negotiations resumed at the “tripartite table” between the Executive Branch, the ruling party and the three blocs of the “dialogue” opposition. ”: pro; the UCR and We Make the Federal Coalition.

The day started with meetings where articles on education and culture were evaluated, and continued with the economic theme. According to different participants, the Government made it clear from the outset that it wants sustain the suspension of retirement mobilityarguing that all the formulas “failed.”

That was the position taken by Pablo Quirno, the Secretary of Finance, but the opposition emphasized that they will not accompany the increases by decree. As there was no agreement, the official agreed to provide answers as soon as possible and the exchange continued.

Another hot topic was withholdings from regional economies. ““They are not going to have the votes.”, was the message that the deputies brought him. But there were no concrete definitions from the Executive either. In the commissions, the UIA (Argentine Industrial Union), represented by Diego Coatz, requested that export duties “be 6 or 8% and not 15% as proposed by the project.”

On the part of the Executive, there were the Deputy Chief of Staff, José Rolandi; the Secretary of Finance, Pablo Quirno; the Treasury, Carlos Guberman; Martín Fariña, from the team Federico Sturzenegger; Mariano Palacios, from the Energy area headed by Eduardo Rodríguez Chirillo; and Martín Vauthier on behalf of Economy.

Among the deputies who passed by Menem’s offices were Luciano Laspina, Nicolás Massot, Emilio Monzó, Lisandro Nieri, Pamela Verasay, Laura Rodríguez Machado, Diego Santilli and Juan Manuel López, in addition to the head of the ruling bloc, Oscar Zago, and the head of the Budget Commission, José Luis Espert, among others.

La Libertad Avanza maintains the idea of ruling towards the end of this week and even supports the possibility of meeting on Saturdaybut in the opposition they agree that, despite the “good predisposition”, the consensus is not mature enough.

Meanwhile, deputies of radicalism, led by Rodrigo De Loredo, and the bloc led by Miguel Pichetto They began to put things in common and they could confluence in a joint opinion if La Libertad Avanza maintains an intransigent attitude.

Nicolás Massot, Emilio Monzó, Carlos Gutiérrez and Oscar Agost Carreño are at the forefront of the negotiations with the radicals, although within We Make the Federal Coalition (a diverse bloc that includes the Cordoban ruling party, socialism, the “lilitos” and others) there are also differences in the degree of support.

In that sense, the Córdoban ruling party and Margarita Stolbizer from Buenos Aires insist on “prioritizing” those reforms that President Javier Milei needs to guide his administration, and leave topics that are not urgent for regular sessionsmany of which also generate strong rejection.

For example, Stolbizer came out this Tuesday to criticize the reforms that imply a “serious setback” in matters of gender, motherhood and childhood. There is also resistance to reforming the Civil and Penal codes, as well as the defunding of culture and changes in mental health, among others.

“There is not a single sector of society that is not affected by the omnibus law. We must guarantee everyone the possibility of expressing themselves about what is happening so as not to advance in reforms without due social consensus,” said Natalia De la Sota from Córdoba.

In the plenary session of commissions, the renowned Mendoza jurist Aida Kemelmajer spoke at the invitation of the radical Julio Cobos and claimed that the chapter referring to the Civil and Commercial Code is removedand that it be analyzed in ordinary sessions.

For her part, the president of Abuelas de Plaza de Mayo, Estela De Carlotto, warned that “this project, if approved, would mean an enormous setback because it overwhelms acquired rights that have taken years of debate.”

Also speaking, among others, were representatives of INADI, the National Tenants Federation, Marina Charpentier, the mother of the singer “Chano” (due to the changes to the Mental Health Law) and Néstor García, father of Micaela, the murdered young woman who gave name to a training law against gender violence.

Omnibus Law: the ruling party rushes negotiations to meet on Saturday

As mentioned, while the presentations continued in the plenary session of commissions, the ruling party multiplied meetings with the most dialogue-oriented opposition. with the aim of advancing towards a joint opinion and debating it this Saturday.

The situation was noticed by the Unión por la Patria bloc, which questioned the absence of deputies from La Libertad Avanza in this Tuesday’s analysis and linked it to negotiations with leaders from other spaces.

One of the most commented cases was that of the president of the ruling bloc, Oscar Zagowho took his coat and left to, according to official sources informed Infobae, meet with opposition legislators.
