HEAD of the National Development Planning Agency, Suharso Monoarfa, said the Government will start a welfare approach in the development acceleration program in Papua which will start rolling out this year.
This statement was made by the Head of the National Development Planning Agency, Suharso Monoarfa, after attending a limited meeting of President Joko Widodo, who discussed the Papua special operation with a number of ministers from the Advanced Indonesia Cabinet at the Merdeka Palace, Jakarta, Wednesday (8/5).
“Earlier we discussed accelerating development in Papua. We will implement a welfare approach there,” said Suharso.
In this agenda, Suharso submitted a number of reports regarding the certainty of budget allocations for welfare programs in Papua.
The report was submitted following Vice President Ma’ruf Amin’s plans to make a working visit to Papua in the near future, in his capacity as chief implementer of the program.
“I reported earlier that we will start this year and the Vice President will immediately go to Papua, because he is the chairman of this implementation,” said Suharso.

Suharso said that the welfare approach for the Papuan people was carried out in stages, covering the education, health and so on sectors.
“The meeting confirmed that all the budget had been included in the ministries and institutions. We wanted to ensure that it was like that,” he said.
Suharso also conveyed the security approach in Papua which is also of special concern to the government.

“Meanwhile, special attention is also given to the security approach, because it is to ensure peace in Papua,” he said.
According to Deputy State-Owned Enterprises (BUMN) Kartika Wirjoatmodjo, the ministers present included Minister of Defense (Menhan) Prabowo Subianto, and Chief of General Staff (Kasum) TNI Lt. Gen. Bambang Ismawan.
Apart from that, also present were the Head of the National Development Planning Agency (Bappenas) Suharso Monoarfa, the Head of the State Intelligence Agency (BIN) Budi Gunawan and the National Police Chief General Pol Listyo Sigit Prabowo.
“Discussing the budget for special operations in Papua. There is the Minister of Defense, Head of the TNI Sum, there is the Head of BIN and the National Police Chief,” said Kartika. (Try/Z-7)
