The drop in births still observed in France in the first half of the year might decide the government to step up the reform of parental leave. Mentioned this summer, this project does not appear in the draft budget presented on Wednesday by the executive but it does not rule out making it a reality during the parliamentary debate, according to our information.
A reform is in any case pushed by the Minister of Solidarity and Families, Aurore Bergé. Barely had she been appointed this summer when she defended “shorter but better compensated parental leave”, sparking an outcry on the left.
