On Monday evening, after his election as the 23rd Prime Minister of Pakistan, Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif reiterated the strong determination of the future government to strengthen its foreign policy.

He described relations with the Islamic Republic of Iran as important and brotherly and stressed his support for strengthening bilateral trade relations between Pakistan and Iran.

Referring to the situation in Afghanistan and the consequences of the escalation of the crisis in the neighboring country on the region and other neighboring countries, Shahbaz Sharif called for immediate attention and assistance to the Afghan people and efforts to overcome the humanitarian and economic crisis in Afghanistan.

He described Pakistan’s relations with China as strategic and inseparable, adding that the next Pakistani government will faster pursue a joint economic corridor between Pakistan and China called SIPAC.

Acknowledging Pakistan’s complex relations with the United States and the differences between the two countries, the new Pakistani Prime Minister said, “Islamabad wants an equal relationship with Washington.

On Pakistan’s relations with India, he said New Delhi should take care of the welfare of the people of the Indian subcontinent and allow the people of Kashmir to freely decide their own destiny.
