Dubai, United Arab Emirates (CNN) – Former Egyptian Vice President Mohamed ElBaradei sparked an interaction between activists on social media following a post in which he touched on the heritage in Egypt.

ElBaradei said in the post he posted on his page on the X platform (formerly Twitter): “Our past with all that it represents in terms of heritage, culture, architecture, literature and art… is the pillar of our present and the basis of our future… Why insist, even in good faith, on destroying our identity and our Egyptianness under the pretext of ‘development of heritage’!” It is not being ‘developed’, but is being ‘preserved’ as it is. Please stop being ignorant… seek the help of people with experience.”

It is noteworthy that, according to the State Information Service in Egypt, the folklore “consists of people’s habits and traditions, and the opinions and ideas they express that they pass on from generation to generation, and it is a continuation of folklore such as folk tales, poems and poems sung in it, folk stories of the jinn, heroic stories, and legends.” It includes arts and crafts, types of dance and play, songs, poetic tales for children, common proverbs and riddles, superstitious concepts, religious ceremonies and holidays.

In its report, the authority stated that the Egyptian character “is the result of a unique cultural encounter, a unique civilizational contribution, and an extended history, in which Egypt communicated with others and produced Egypt’s heritage character that emanated from its various avenues, streets, and regions, and produced its uniqueness and genius that appeared through all forms of traditional arts that Egypt boasts of it..”
