Carmen Martín Salinas, President of the Association of Nurses of Nutrition and Dietary (Adenyd), emphasizes the particular vulnerability of adolescents and pregnant individuals to the pressures of this diet.

“Adolescence,by its own psychological vulnerability,is the perfect target for this type of challenges. The desire to fit,aesthetic pressure and romantization of extreme thinness combine with a little regulated digital surroundings,generating a perfect storm,” Salinas warned.

Adding to these concerns, a 2017 study published in Pediatrics and recently highlighted by Spanish newspaper El País, analyzed 31 children’s films and found overwhelmingly negative portrayals of characters with overweight or obesity.
