People’s Daily Online, Beijing, February 9 (Reporter Bao Congying) “For the snow sports of the Winter Olympics, weather is of vital importance. In order to do a good job in the guarantee of meteorological services for the Winter Olympics, we have established a 49-person meteorological service guarantee sub-center for the Winter Olympics to carry out a full range of meteorological service guarantees. ”On February 9th, the 2022 Beijing News Center held a special press conference on the service guarantee of the venues of the Beijing Winter Olympics. At the meeting, Huang Keying, deputy secretary of the Yanqing Municipal Party Committee of Beijing, introduced how Yanqing District can do a good job in weather service guarantee when answering reporters’ questions.

The reporter learned that Yanqing District has built a ”three-dimensional, second-level, multi-element” Winter Olympics meteorological monitoring network. Through automatic weather stations, weather radars, microwave radiometers and other detection equipment, it provides real-time weather monitoring data covering the division and surrounding areas, and provides an important monitoring data basis for Winter Olympics events and urban operations.

In addition, Yanqing District has also established a “minute-level and 100-meter-level” Winter Olympics forecasting service system, which has realized a ten-minute follow-up cycle with a 100-meter resolution in Yanqing Division, and can simulate nearly 100 weather conditions. The three-dimensional meteorological high-definition simulation data set of Yanqing Stadium can achieve seamless real-time forecasting and early warning from zero to ten days. In order to achieve accurate forecasting, a number of meteorological observation points have been established in the core area, of which the highest observation point is 2,198 meters above sea level.

Huang Keying introduced that on February 6th, the men’s downhill alpine skiing competition, which was scheduled to start at 11:00, was postponed to 12:00 on February 7th due to weather. During the period, the forecast team will judge the wind speed changes hour by hour and report the weather conditions in time. On February 7th, the Yanqing meteorological team continued to strengthen meteorological linkage meetings, closely monitor weather trends, and continue to provide accurate meteorological services. Good meteorological conditions ensured that the alpine skiing men’s downhill competition was held as scheduled at 12 o’clock, and all competitions on the day were successfully completed. Marcus Waldner, the referee of alpine skiing at the Winter Olympics, also fully affirmed our professional and accurate weather service.
