Director The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & SnakesFrancis Lawrence, said that Lucy Gray’s fate in the prequel film was intentionally a mystery.
In an interview with the Hollywood Reporter, Tuesday (21/11), Lawrence also admitted that he did not discuss the fate of the character played by Rachel Zegler with the original writer of The Hunger Games, Suzanne Collins.
“No. We haven’t talked about it. The whole idea is a mystery,” Lawrence said.
In The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes Chapter 3, Lucy Gray is told of walking in the forest with Coriolanus Snow (Tom Blyth).
At that time, Lucy realized that Snow was hiding something when the man let slip that he had killed three people, not two as she had previously known.
Lucy, who was starting to become suspicious and felt insecure, tried to remain calm and followed Snow into a hut to take shelter from the coming rain.
Even though it was still raining, Lucy then told Snow she wanted to look for a plant called Katniss in the forest. Snow also allowed it.
But after a while, Snow realized that Lucy hadn’t come back. He started looking in the forest and calling her name. Snow only found Lucy’s scarf.
When he took the scarf, a snake suddenly appeared and bit Snow. While angry, he hallucinates seeing Lucy Gray and shoots her.
In that scene, Snow is depicted as experiencing psychological disorders and experiencing changes in his character. Until Snow returned to the Capitol, he never knew where Lucy was.
“I love that scene [di hutan]. “That’s my favorite scene in the film,” Lawrence said.
