The National Institute of Information Technology (ITI) extended for another two weeks Public Consultation 01/2024 – Modernization of Public Key Infrastructure (ICP-Brazil), which is open to suggestions from society.

The decision to extend the deadline responds to requests from numerous entities in the sector, in particular the Association of Brazilian Registration Authorities – AARB, which took this need to the ITI’s CEO, in a face-to-face meeting held on 01/30/2023.

According to the executive president of AARB, Jorge Prates, the extension of the deadline allows for a broad dialogue between entities that interact with ICP-Brasil, such as government bodies, certification authorities and associations in the digital certification and identification market.

“The proposals contained therein will be matured by joint work carried out by organized society. Public consultation is a very efficient tool in democracy, and requires a reasonable period of operation, especially with regard to the issue of modernizing ICP-Brazil”, said Prates.

With the extension, contributions from civil society can be sent until February 26th using the form ITI Public Consultation | 01/2024.

The action establishes the Electronic Seal type certificate, replacing the legal entity certificate, with the purpose of guaranteeing authenticity and origin of documents, maintaining certificates for signature purposes exclusively for individuals; establishes Special Applications certificates in software and hardware, as well as the Webtrust SSL/TLS certificate type; and also extinguishes the Secrecy certificates (S1 to S4) and the A1 certificate.

With this public consultation, the ITI seeks to promote the wide dissemination of the normative proposal, as well as to enable representation by representative bodies and entities, individuals and legal entities interested in the topic.
