At this point in the film, no one can be surprised to see an SUV lead the sales list in our country (the 10 best-selling cars in Spain in 2021) and this type of vehicle is here to stay, showing that it is not only a fad, but something more. So we’ve decided to scour the market for the most efficient SUVs you can buy, and we’ve found that every single one here uses plug-in hybrid powertrains, mechanics with which they manage to homologate ridiculous combined fuel consumption according to the WLTP protocol.
However, it should be noted that this type of power train is only advantageous if the user has a charger either at home or at work that allows him to replenish the energy of his batteries on a daily basis, since otherwise the fuel cost will skyrocket and will have nothing to do with the approved figure which is presented below. We have already been able to verify on different occasions through our tests the importance of the hybrid vehicle (The 15 cheapest plug-in hybrid SUVs on the market) in question has a battery charged as much as possible because in this way really low consumption is achieved and this is where this type of electrified mechanics make all the sense. Once the energy has been exhausted, the thermal engine is in continuous operation and all efficiency goes into the background, since it should be remembered that the presence of the entire electrical part significantly increases the weight of the assembly and that translates into an expense of greater fuel than a model with the same characteristics would have, but without electrification.

We are not going to reveal the name of the winner yet, but we will say that it is somewhat different from the rest and we are not saying it because of its appearance, but rather because of a characteristic that cannot go unnoticed and that has to do with the type of fuel used. .
