The Impact of Food Inflation on the Restaurant Industry: The Case of Deanes EIPIC

2023-11-07 21:06:34

Food inflation not only affects households, but also those who operate restaurants.

This is the case of the Deanes EIPIC restaurant which received a Michelin star in 2016 and which had to close its doors due to excessively high prices in recent days, according to information from CNN.

The business has confirmed it has made the difficult decision to close due to COVID-19, Brexit and the rising cost of living.

Its only option was to pass the bill on to customers and the next increases would have been too difficult to absorb.

“As a whole, EIPIC was not on the verge of going bankrupt, but customers had expectations and these expectations were growing since the price of plates had doubled since the pandemic,” mentions chef Alex Greene.
