What happens if you remain silent for a long time

Senior lecturer at the Department of Fundamental Medical Disciplines of the State University of Education, pathophysiologist Sergei Stepanov told how long-term silence can affect the human body.

It turns out that living for a long time without talking is very dangerous. Vocal cords that are left idle will have a negative impact on the timbre, strength and pitch of the voice. But this is not the worst thing, writes the Doctor Peter portal, since following the silence ends, the voice will gradually begin to recover.

“Prolonged silence can lead to weakening of the function of the part of the cerebral cortex that is responsible for speech. These neurons will lose connections, and, accordingly, the person will not be able to control his voice as well as before,” the doctor explained.

Previously, scientists developed an application to combat mental illness – it reduces anxiety.
