The words of Donald Trump, who demands that all NATO member countries do their part and jokingly invites Vladimir Putin to invade countries that do not invest enough in their defense, are considered shocking by collaborators of the show “Le Bilan”.

“It’s very worrying. It’s like he completely discredited an organization […] which still ensured stability within the members. I find this very worrying,” said Joëlle Boutin.

“It scares me as a Canadian citizen,” she added.

Former PQ minister Stéphane Bédard expects that statements like this will have consequences.

“All this shows is the risk we are currently running. In terms of global stability, the election of Trump would have a terrible impact,” proclaims the analyst.

“The chances of Trump returning to power are real. Our European friends are looking at the situation with this possibility happening which has become a significant probability… They cannot wait until the last minute,” he adds.

Mr. Bédard also deplores the radio silence of the republican authorities following the exit of the candidate and ex-president.

“It shows that the Republican Party no longer has any safeguards. Previously, these words, if they had been spoken by anyone, even a senator or someone in the House of Representatives, would have been rebuffed by the authorities. Mr. Trump had no reprimands,” underlines Stéphane Bédard.
