A massive conference on the importance of mental health among athletes

Under the auspices of the Arab Open University, the International Scientific Academy for Physical Education and Sports, in cooperation with the Lebanese Society for Physical Culture, organized a massive conference at the Hilton Al Habtoor Hotel.
The conference workshops, which extended for more than six hours, focused on the importance of mental health among athletes, and a large group of experienced and specialists participated in its many sessions, and it was moderated by Professor Mona Harb Kebbi and Professor Zakaria Sharara.

The attendees were represented by the representative of the Minister of Youth and Sports, Director General of Facilities, Head of the Sports Authority, Muhammad Oweidat, Vice President of the Lebanese Olympic Committee, Sami Qiblawi, representatives of the security services, President of the Universities Sports Federation, Sami Qara Btian, and its Secretary General, Ziad Saadeh.
The audience was also presented by Dr. Amina Harbli, representative of the university’s director, Dr. Yara Abdullah, and professors Rana Haider, Dr. Ghadi Muqlad, Akram Deeb, and Zakaria Sharara from the Arab Open University.

In detail, after the national anthem, KB opened the conference with an introductory speech about the content of the conference, its objectives, and the necessary steps to benefit from it in the context of serving the sporting generations. Then, a documentary film was shown about the university and its expansion in the Arab world, which is distributed among nine countries, along with its departments, certificates, and the ambitions of its administration.
The first speech was given by the conference sponsor, Dr. Harbli, in which she indicated that the conference aims to exchange experiences and information revolving around sports and athletes and the extent of their impact on people’s lives.

Then Professor Oueidat delivered a speech on behalf of Minister George Kallas, in which he pointed out that the spirit of a champion with athletic achievement often stems from the core of his psychological health. He stressed that paying attention to the mental health of athletes will contribute to graduating champions by instilling a spirit of competition and challenge to reach them on the podium, and he congratulates the university. Adopting a new approach to sports and youth sports.

Qiblawi said that mental health is no less important than physical health, especially when facing the difficulties and obstacles that our country is going through that exhaust athletes and citizens, hoping that special seminars will be organized for coaches and administrators later.
After showing an introductory film about the associations supervising the organization of the conference, Professor Ibrahim Wazna gave a speech on behalf of the sports media, in which he pointed out that this media is no less important than the political media, especially in the field of expressing opinions, expressing positions, and criticizing performance, and he called on colleagues to adopt credibility and objectivity.

After a valuable lecture by Brigadier General Fadi Kubbi, in which he addressed many psychological issues among athletes while supporting the data he presented with examples of world champions and heroines, the segments continued under the direction of Professor Malak Itani, and the people of experience, each in his field, spoke about the pressures. Resulting from the media and social networking sites on the mental health of athletes.

Sally Khoury and Karen Khoury also talked about behaviors, mental health, the importance of social support, and “step by step” coping techniques to achieve the desired goal. The paragraphs dealt with dietary patterns, the extent of the impact of stress on athletes of high levels and achievements, and the role of families in providing psychological support.

There were interventions and discussions with the personal experiences of a number of Lebanese champions in some individual games, and the Arab Open University presented its guests and senior attendees with shields of appreciation that were handed to them by Dr. Amina Harbli.
