Dr. Tedros Adhanom, Director-General of the World Health Organization, said that the number of coronavirus infections that have been recorded has increased by up to 30% during the past two weeks, and that there is a sub-strain of the virus in India that is being followed up.

Dr. Tadros indicated that he will meet with the organization’s emergency committee to discuss developments in the spread of the virus on July 18 or at an earlier date, and confirmed that the organization will work to make vaccines for this disease available.

With regard to the humanitarian crisis in Syria, Tadros said that humanitarian needs in Syria have reached greater levels since the beginning of the war there, noting that up to 4.4 million people need aid in the northeast of the country, and these depend on cross-border aid access, to obtain vaccinations medicines and health needs.

Tadros expressed his hope that the Security Council would take the appropriate decision regarding the arrival of aid to preserve the health of those in need.
