Paramadina University Public Policy and Education RESEARCHER Totok Amin Soefijanto assesses that the Independent Learning Curriculum needs objective and scientific evaluation before being designated as the national curriculum.

“Basically, the curriculum requires truly objective scientific studies so that we know its strengths and weaknesses, as well as government policy recommendations needed to make the curriculum effective in improving the quality of national education,” said Totok when contacted, Monday (15/4).

Totok said that national level curriculum transformation must consider the readiness of teachers and teaching staff, infrastructure or facilities, and support from parents and the community.

Apart from that, more competent teachers are also needed. Starting from the education of prospective teachers at the Educational Personnel Education Institute (LPTK) or teacher training university, so that they are ready to carry out the curriculum and its derivatives to the lesson plan and evaluation system well.

As is known, the Independent Learning Curriculum has been running for several years and involves most educational units and teachers. Even so, scientific studies are still needed regarding the curriculum because existing studies are still qualitative and casuistic.

“Apart from that, the ability of teachers and education personnel to implement this curriculum is still inadequate. Many of them are still confused between Curriculum 13 and the Independent Learning Curriculum,” he said.

In fact, some regions still use the old curriculum such as KBK and KTSP.

“One more homework for the government and the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research and Technology is to erase the impression that freedom to learn means learning as you please. This impression arises because of the inability of many teachers and parents to understand this new way of teaching and learning,” he concluded.
