Brij Bhushan, the leader of the ‘Gunda Federation’

Brijbhushan, who has ruled the National Wrestling Federation for more than ten years since 2011, is also BJP’s trump card. He is always addicted to wrestling. Wherever there is a wrestling match, he goes there. Brij Bhushan, who arrives with a luxury party and around thirty entourage, is the star there. Matches will be postponed for as long as it takes for him to come. What he says is the law. He can start and stop the program whenever he likes. Then the match continues as if nothing had happened. Brij Bhushan has a history of embarrassing contestants, organizers and even the audience. No one will ask. No one will complain. If he complains, his future will be in the balance. This has been seen in major wrestling matches in India for quite some time now.

Brijbhushan is also a person who organizes events with his own money. If he is not able to participate in a tournament in person, Brijbhushan also has a method of controlling the match via the Internet from his home by placing cameras everywhere in the venue. Although there were referees, it was Brijbhushan who controlled the game. He always has the last word in the competition.

Brij Bhushan runs more than 50 educational institutions in Bahraikh, Gonda, Balrampur, Ayodhya and Sravasti districts. This is the basis of his influence in the Gonda region. Those who come to wrestle are strong boys and girls. They need someone strong to control them. Is there anyone here who is stronger than me? This was how Brijbhushan publicly defended his position as the head of the wrestling federation.

In 2021, Brijbhushan Singh punched a wrestler in the face in Ranchi while everyone was watching. The incident became very controversial after its footage came out. The demand for an apology was strong, but it was rejected with contempt. ‘I only touched a little… I didn’t hit hard. If he had hit like that, he would have gone far and fallen by now’ was Brijbhushan’s arrogant reply.

‘You were never a good father’ – son’s note before he died

Brij Bhushan, who shows his strength in politics and wrestling, but there is a small mistake in his family. It was the suicide of his son Shakti Singh. In 2004, Shaktisingh shot himself dead using Brij Bhushan’s gun. ‘You are never a good father. You haven’t looked at our stuff even once. Your own business is also important to you. Another person is growing under me. Our way forward is closed. It doesn’t matter if you’re alive anymore. Better to die’. These were the lines of Brij Bhushan’s son’s suicide note. Although the incident was highly debated, it did not affect Brijbhushan’s wrestling or political career in any way.

Sexual accusations against female actors

Mafia boss, Aruma of BJP; Brij Bhushan, the leader of the ‘Gunda Federation’, came forward in January 2023 by raising sexual allegations against Brij Bhushan. The complaints were that the wrestling federation was mentally harassing and that Brij Bhushan and his coaches were sexually exploiting the women players. The complaint was filed by seven female players and one minor player. Around thirty wrestlers including Sakshi Malik, Sangeeta Phogat, Jitender Kinha protested at Jantar Mantar that day. The players had said at that time that he has been harassing him for years and such a person is not fit to be the president of the federation.

Later, on January 20, in a discussion with Union Sports Minister Anurag Thakur, the players ended their strike on the basis of an assurance that Brij Bhushan would be removed from the post of president of the wrestling federation. But after the Center was not ready to keep its promise, the players started again at Jantarmandar.

Brij Bhushan says that the allegations against him are politically motivated. Brij Bhushan’s question was that if there were such allegations, would the complaint be filed now even after ten years? Brij Bhushan said that the strike is being sponsored by the Congress and he is ready to be hanged if the allegations are proved. He said that if he opens his mouth, there will be a tsunami and compared the struggle of wrestlers to the Shahinbagh struggle during the citizenship struggle. Delhi Police even took a case against Brijbhushan following the intervention of the Supreme Court after massive protests.

Labeled as a radical Hindu activist. The man, who served jail time in the Sangh Parivar involvement in Ayodhya, built his own mafia empire in at least six districts of Uttar Pradesh. Even BJP can’t mess with such a person. That means he doesn’t need the party to win, as a BJP leader in Gonda said. It’s like saying that he succeeds on his own influence
