Fake package but real refund request. Two 21-year-old men admitted to having scammed La Poste, near Toulouse. They managed to recover more than 2,000 euros before being unmasked.
It’s a very profitable little sleight of hand that two students from the Toulouse region had set up. The crooks, aged 21, regularly went to a post office in Colomiers to drop off packages. They used automatic postage terminals, systematically taking out insurance for a value of up to 1,000 euros.
Parcels never sent, but declared lost
They then just had to discreetly steal a stamp from the counter, or bamboozle a La Poste agent, to validate the shipment. But the packages were never deposited, and the two young men could then initiate a reimbursement procedure for loss of packages.
Three times, the two men managed to get reimbursed by La Poste by producing invoices for mobile phones. But after pocketing just over 2,000 euros, they were unmasked by La Poste, as told 20 Minutes. They confessed and opted for a “guilty plea” procedure.
