The inhabitants of the town of Ancenis, located about forty kilometers from Nantes, in Loire-Atlantique, are angry. Hospital emergencies have been closed again at night for a week, Sunday February 19.

Several hundred people gathered on Sunday February 19 to save the emergency room of Ancenis-Saint-Géréon (Loire-Atlantique). For lack of staff, the service is again closed at night, between 5 p.m. and 8:30 a.m., for an indefinite period. “I suffered the consequences again this weekend. I had to do 40km because I was not well at 3 a.m., it got so bad, we can’t go on like this”deplores Magali Terrien, emergency support group at the Erdre et Loire Hospital Center.

More than 5,000 people have signed a petition

Deprived of local emergencies at night, the 100,000 inhabitants who depend on the hospital are now redirected to the Nantes or Angers university hospitals, which are also under tension. “Going to Nantes or Angers to clog the health system which is already out of breath, it’s not possible”, judges a mother. A petition has been signed by nearly 5,000 people to demand the reopening of emergencies 24 hours a day. For the moment, it is impossible to envisage it.
