The International Court of Justice is considering a lawsuit filed by Nicaragua accusing Germany of supporting Israel in its war of annihilation of Gaza

The Hague – The first session of the International Court of Justice will be held tomorrow, Monday, to examine Germany’s role in facilitating genocide, by providing political, financial and military support to Israel, and suspending funding for UNRWA.

The case brought by Nicaragua against Germany appears to indirectly target the Israeli military campaign in Gaza.

“We are calm, and we will determine our legal position in court,” Sebastian Fischer, spokesman for the German Foreign Ministry, said before the hearings.

“We reject Nicaragua’s accusations,” Fischer told reporters in Berlin on Friday. Germany has not violated the Genocide Convention nor international humanitarian law, and we will present this in detail before the International Court of Justice.”

Nicaragua asked the court to issue preliminary orders – provisional measures – that include Germany immediately suspending its aid to Israel, especially military, as long as such aid may be used to violate the Genocide Convention and international law.

The court will likely take weeks to issue its initial decision, and the Nicaragua case could drag on for years.

Monday’s hearing at the International Court of Justice comes amid growing calls for Israel’s allies to immediately stop supplying weapons to it as its six-month military campaign continues to destroy the Gaza Strip.

The Israeli attack led to the displacement of the vast majority of Gaza’s population, and more than 33,000 Palestinians were killed in Gaza as a result of the ongoing war, according to the Ministry of Health in the Strip.

The United Nations says famine is approaching, with food scarce in the Strip, and only a few Palestinians have been able to leave.
