The Iranian judiciary chief warns of “malicious acts” in Iraq

From the Iraqi capital, Baghdad, the Iranian judiciary warned against “the malicious actions of Israel and America,” after stressing that “cooperation with Iraq is more necessary than ever before.”

The visit of the Iranian official, Gholam Hossein Mohseni, coincided with Iraqi affirmations of “the importance of strengthening relations with the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and Saudi Arabia in the fields of investment and trade.”

Mohseni arrived in Baghdad on Wednesday to discuss “the situation in the region and strengthen judicial coordination between the two countries,” according to an Iraqi statement.

Prime Minister Muhammad Shiaa Al-Sudani stressed, during his reception with Mohseni, “the importance of the pivotal role in Iraq by promoting dialogue in the region.”

A government statement quoted Al-Sudani as saying that he “discussed with the improvers of bilateral relations between the two neighboring countries, and joint coordination in various files and issues of common interest.”

The statement added, “The discussions touched on the importance of strengthening judicial cooperation between Iraq and Iran in the field of confronting terrorism and combating drug trade. They also touched on the current situation in Gaza, and the occupation authorities’ continuation of committing brutal crimes against civilians.”

Al-Sudani stressed “the necessity of coordination between the countries of the Islamic world and the region in order to put pressure to stop the war, save our Palestinian people from the genocide to which they are subjected, and help them determine their fate.”

For his part, Mohseni stressed “the aspiration to strengthen the foundations of cooperation between the two countries, as it has become more necessary today than ever before,” praising “the Iraqi government’s policies towards the various challenges facing Iraq and the region, and its responsible positions regarding the events in Gaza.”

In a separate meeting with the leaders of the government coalition “Coordinating Framework,” Mohseni said, “The Great Satan (America) and the Zionist entity (Israel) are practicing malicious acts against Islamic countries, including Iran and Iraq.”

Mohseni spoke to his hosts, Shiite party leaders, that “the need for unity and cooperation between the two countries has become more necessary than it was in the past.”

Mohseni said, according to what was published by Iranian media, “The successes achieved today in Iran and Iraq in order to preserve independence, strengthen national sovereignty and establish security, and the progress that has been achieved in various fields, are the result of following the teachings of religion and perseverance and steadfastness in the path of truth.”

In the same meeting, Ammar al-Hakim, one of the leaders of the coordination framework, believed that “mutual visits between Iraq and Iran are evidence of the social and religious ties between the two peoples,” pointing to “the nature of the commonalities between the two friendly peoples.”

Al-Hakim said: “The largest social component (referring to the Shiites) contributed to the overthrow of the dictatorial regime, and they now have a pivotal and central role in Iraqi management and decision-making.”

Mohseni ended his agenda in Baghdad by visiting the site where Qassem Soleimani, head of the “Quds Force” of the Iranian “Revolutionary Guard,” was killed by an American strike in January 2020, near Baghdad International Airport.

Mohseni’s visit coincides with discussions between Baghdad and Washington regarding the future of the international coalition forces, which the government says aim to schedule their withdrawal, something the US Department of Defense denies.

Baghdad expressed its hope that the current discussions would result in putting an end to the ambiguous nature of the relationship between the government and the international coalition. However, through the Sudanese military spokesman, it confirmed that progress in the discussions depends on if “the peace is not disturbed by an emergency,” referring to the possibility of an exchange of strikes between the United States. America and the armed factions loyal to Iran.

The Prime Minister expressed, “Iraq welcomes the entry of Saudi companies into the Iraqi market, in which there are many great investment opportunities today,” pointing to “the advanced level of relations between the two brotherly countries, especially in the areas of investment, development, and infrastructure reconstruction in the energy sector.”

For his part, the Saudi minister conveyed “the greetings of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Salman bin Abdulaziz, and his Crown Prince, Prince Mohammed bin Salman, to the Sudanese,” stressing “his country’s desire to continue strengthening bilateral partnership and cooperation relations in various fields.”
