The president of the Congolese Handball Federation (Fecohand), Ayessa Ndinga Yengue dit Yan, denounced problems in the organization of the 2022 African Cup of Nations (CAN) for junior/cadet men’s handball, highlighting a problem of logistics.

The 29th and 18th editions of the African Cup of Nations (CAN) of men’s junior/cadet handball will take place respectively from August 20 to 27, 2022 and from August 30 to September 06, 2022, in Kigali, Rwanda. Less than a week before the start of the competitions, the teams of Red Devils are struggling to prepare in good conditions, according to the president of the Congolese Handball Federation (Fecohand), Ayessa Ndinga Yengue dit Yan. In his remarks, the president of Fecohand pointed to logistical problems. « We are very worried and we don’t really know if these young people will leave. Until this day, the journey of the Red Devils is still uncertain », a declared the president of Fecohand. In order to prevent these young people from forfeiting, and in the Congo from fines and various sanctions, Ayessa Ndinga Yengue launched a heartfelt cry to the public authorities to come to the bedside of these athletes. « I appeal to the Ministry of Sports, I know it is not easy. I put myself in their place, but I would also like them to put themselves in our place, we presidents of the federations, not only Fecohand, I want to speak a little for everyone today. The ministry must help us so that our junior and cadet Red Devils can travel so that they can represent Congo. », said Ayessa Ndinga Yengue. Continuing his remarks, the president of Fecohand said he feared negative repercussions on the future of these young people called upon to take over the national team. « If today the children we are training do not travel, they will ask questions. They may even question their choice to have decided to practice this sport because senior men no longer participate in any competition. Will it be the same with the next generation, so the juniors and the cadet men? », alerted Ayessa Ndinga Yengue. For the president of Fecohand, this problem would not be without consequences for the leaders of Congolese handball. « These children will ask questions and certainly we will too. Should we really continue to train men? We are very worried », he said. Note that the Congolese selection will enter the competition on August 20 against Chad. This, after having observed two days of quarantine for reasons of the fight against Covid-19.
