The King of Jordan and Guterres stress the need to protect relief workers in Gaza

Amman – King Abdullah II of Jordan and United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres stressed on Wednesday the need to protect workers in relief organizations in the Gaza Strip.

This came during a telephone call, according to a statement from the Royal Court, a copy of which Anadolu received.

The statement stated that the King and Guterres stressed “the necessity of providing protection for workers in humanitarian relief organizations in the Gaza Strip.”

They discussed the “dangerous situation in Gaza,” which resulted in the killing of members of the World Central Kitchen team while working to deliver vital aid to the people of the Strip, according to the same statement.

King Abdullah stressed that Jordan “continues to make every effort to deliver humanitarian, medical and relief aid by all available means to Gaza, in coordination with various international organizations and international partners.”

He called on the international community to take “immediate” action to limit the worsening humanitarian “disaster” in Gaza.

For his part, Guterres praised Jordan’s role in delivering humanitarian aid to the people of the Gaza Strip through various available means.

On Monday evening, the Israeli army targeted a convoy of the “World Central Kitchen” organization in the city of Deir al-Balah in the central Gaza Strip, killing 7 people holding the nationalities of Australia, Poland, Britain, the United States, Canada and Palestine, which forced the organization (based in the United States) to immediately suspend its services in sector.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu previously claimed in a statement that the bombing was not “intentional,” saying: “Unfortunately, a tragic incident occurred during the last day, which was an unintended targeting by our forces of innocent people in the Gaza Strip.”
